My Top 10 Nursery Essentials

August 31, 2021

There are a lot of things to think about and buy when you find out you are having a baby. I thought I would help you out by sharing with you my top 10 nursery essentials list.

1. Crib

I love this Ikea Sniglar Crib for many reasons. It is very affordable. This crib is great for shorter people and especially for moms who have c-sections. There is no reaching over the crib and rolling baby into to crib hoping and praying that baby doesn’t wake up.

This crib also converts into a toddler bed!

2. Mattress

There are a lot of different kinds of crib mattresses out there. You can get a great crib mattress between $50-$100. There are three types of mattresses foam, innerspring, and organic. You will also want to make sure you get the right size and firmness. Another thing I paid close attention to was if it was waterproof and how easy it would be to clean the mattress. You never know when your little one will have a blowout. The Safety 1st Heaven Dreams mattress is the one I found to be really good and very affordable.

3. Waterproof Mattress Cover

You will want a waterproof mattress cover for the crib, and it wouldn’t be a bad idea to consider getting one for your bed as well. You will thank me later! Save yourself time in and energy in the middle of the night by covering your mattress with a waterproof cover. No one wants to have to clean a mattress in the middle of the night. This Ultra Soft Waterproof Crib Mattress is really affordable. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to get two of them.

4. Crib Sheet

When it comes to choosing crib sheets there are many different fabrics and linens to consider. Burt’s Bees make an inexpensive organic sheet. They are dependable and affordable.

5. Glider Rocker

A newborn will feed every couple of hours or so, you will want a chair that you can sit in and be comfortable in. Ideally, you will want to look for a chair that allows you to lean, rock, swivel, and put your feet up. There are many styles and a wide range of prices to choose from. I really like this Naomi Home Brisbane Glider & Ottoman Set.

6. Nursing Pillow

Nursing pillows are important to have. When you are nursing your baby you will need to keep their head propped up in order to avoid indigestion and gas. Trying to support your baby in this position for hours on end can cause a lot of discomforts if you don’t have the help of a nursing pillow. I really like this Boppy Pillow. The great thing about a nursing pillow is you can use it for tummy time and later to help baby learn to sit up.

7. Dresser/Changing Table

Even though your baby is small they will have a lot of clothes and diapers. You will find that you will probably end up changing your baby about 3 or more times a day. Having a place for all those clothes and diapers is necessary. I really like the idea of buying a dresser and adding a changing pad kit to the top of it so that you can use it later as well. I like this Serta 4 Drawer Dresser and add Serta Changing Top along with Summer Infant Contoured Changing Pad.

8. Diapers & Wipes

You will use a lot of diapers and wipes in the first year. And by a lot, I mean close to 3360 diapers in the first year. I never really got into the cloth diaper thing, however, I know a lot of people that use them and love them. Most of my clients and friends that have used clothes diapers use Cotton Babies. I used disposable diapers because I didn’t have the time or energy to take care of cloth diapers. I really liked the Pampers Swaddlers.

9. Swaddler Blankets

Swaddler Blankets are great because most babies love to swaddle. These are also great because we all know it is important to make sure baby is sleeping safely in their crib. I really like these Swaddle Blankets. They do the trick and are super easy to use.

10. White Noise Machine

Some babies may prefer to have some white noise in the background when they sleep. If you think about it, this makes perfect sense. Babies constantly hear the sound of blood flow, a mother’s heartbeat, and so on in the womb, so having some white noise can really help your baby sleep well. This is a great white noise machine or you could use a fan as well.
